Meet Andy

Andy Nguyen is a servant, a leader, an entrepreneur, and a family man. His life story is proof that the American dream is alive and attainable by all Americans.

Born in the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), Andy Nguyen faced a childhood of poverty, hunger and oppression after the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. When he was just 14 years old, his family risked everything to escape Communist persecution and flee to America in 1981.

Despite the challenge of learning a new language and culture, Andy worked hard and thrived, finishing high school with his peers. While working as a restaurant dishwasher and waiter, he attended college, joined the Kentucky National Guard, completed training in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), and was commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer in the United States Army Reserve.

Andy graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Business Management. He completed the Army Officer Basic Course in Oklahoma, and moved to Texas in 1992. He began work in the telecommunications field and soon started his own multi-million dollar telecom company.

Blessed with success, he then put his energies into inspiring other immigrants to embrace the American dream.

Andy’s long record of service to his community includes leadership in multiple businesses and community-based organizations. In 2010, he was elected to the Tarrant County Commissioners Court, becoming the first Asian American to serve as Commissioner in Tarrant County. During his tenure as Precinct 2, Tarrant County Commissioner, Andy was widely recognized for his leading role in and contribution to transportation, healthcare, mental health, information technology, and effective governance.

From 2019-2021, Andy served the Texas Sixth Congressional District as Congressman Ron Wright’s District Director and Deputy Chief of Staff.

A speaker, teacher and trainer on life, liberty and leadership, he has been recognized for his service to his community as the recipient of the Tarrant County Asian American Chamber of Commerce Leadership Award, the Arlington Martin Luther King Celebration “Advancing The Dream” Award, and the 2018 Public Elected Official of the Year Award from the North Central Texas Fort Worth Area Branch of the National Association of Social Workers.

Andy currently operates a small business with his wife, Julie. They live in the Arlington area with their three children, where they are parishioners at St. Joseph Vietnamese Catholic Church. Andy is active with the Arlington Rotary Club, the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and the Vietnamese American community.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 8th, with early voting beginning on Monday, October 24th.
